Monologue: The cup is a quotidian object we interact with on an intimate level; from lip to lip. It is often the first object we reach for after rising, and is cupped in the hands and sipped from as we ease into the busyness of the day. Its surfaces and contours are contemplated as we sip. Through association, memories of experience may be evoked through motifs, translucent or opaque glazes and colour. The translucent water blue, turquoise and chartreuse glazes and contrasts of colour may evoke the crisp quality of light on a warm September day by the ocean while the stylized floral motif nods to the garden. The pattern draws the gaze around and inside the contours of the form. Ergonomics are an essential component - the handle must fit while the beveled rim accommodates the lips and the trimmed foot ensures even distribution of weight.
